Abstract Despite the importance of biodiversity, humans value some species more highly than others. Placing different levels on can impact nonhuman animal welfare and conservation. Feelings are central to recognition. It’s critical better understand how foster positive feelings toward species. The purpose this study was test Transcendent Animal Valuation scale evaluate influence a wildlife sanctuary visit moose coyotes. piloted with 29 visitors demonstrated good reliability. It then administered 100 visitors. At baseline, participants had significantly stronger emotional valuation compared coyote, consistent negative social constructions Both coyote scores increased from pre- post-visit, suggesting that exposure in setting increase diverse experience may also stewardship.
